OUR STORY
Cranky Boys Golf was born in the early 1990's, when a tight-knit group of friends including Mark Lucksinger and Miki Yokataki noticed a theme in their golf trips: someone was always cranky. A missed putt. A bad bounce. The usual. The group leaned into it, gave the nickname "The Cranky Boys" to their own, and turned the moment into something bigger.
Together, they created a brand that captured the unfiltered side of golf: the passion, the imperfections, and the realness. They made shirts, printed hats, and started what’s now a 30-year tradition: the Cranky Boys Tournament - three rounds of golf in one day, every year, rain or shine.
The original logo, drawn by a cousin of one of the founders, featured a stick figure mid-breakdown with a speech bubble that said “UNKO” ... Japanese for "SH!T". It was raw, hilarious, and perfectly honest.
Cranky Boys wasn’t built to impress country clubs - it was built to represent the heart of the game, where friendship and frustration go hand in hand.

THE LEGACY LIVES ON
The brand slowed down in the early 2000s, but in high school, Marcus - grandson of co-founder Mark Lucksinger started digging into the archive. Something about the tone, the community, and the authenticity of Cranky Boys just hit differently. In 2021, during his freshman year of college, Marcus officially re-registered the LLC and began bringing the brand back to life.
Throughout college, Marcus explored small-batch drops, refined designs, and perfected the product - tapping into sources, testing ideas, and gathering real feedback from golfers who loved the gear as much as the story behind it. While balancing other ventures, his passion for Cranky Boys stayed constant.
In 2024, the brand’s momentum built into the first-ever public Cranky Boys Golf Tournament, co-hosted with the Horseshoe Collective, Boise State’s NIL program. The tournament raised six figures and brought a new generation into the fold. In 2025, the second annual followed — bigger, louder, and true to form.
THE CRANKY CODE
We believe in keeping it honest.
We believe in playing hard — and laughing harder.
We believe that golf is about the people you walk with, not just the numbers on your card.
We believe in tradition, grit, and gear that actually means something.
We respect the game.
We accept the attitude.
